Visitor Reviews

This review submitted by Neils Johs. Legarth Iversen January 2001
The La Paz zoo formerly occupied a limited area on a steep slope in the southern part of central La Paz. Then a few years ago (I haven't got the exact year, but probably around 1990) it moved out to a place called Mallasa outside town. To get there you can take a minibus or a taxi from the lower part of Marichal Santa Cruz or its southern continuations(named 16 de Julio and 6 de Agosto) through the fashionable Zona Zur and past the strange Valle de la Luna directly to the zoo entrance. At its new location it has lots of space, but it has not nearly enough animals to fill out all that space, so large areas of the zoo are just empty right now. But that may soon change: during my visit in 1998 they were building a large aviary, and I am sure they have more exhibits underway. In maybe five to ten years I think it will grow into a very nice zoo. .
