Visitor Reviews

This review submitted by NIELS JOHS LEGARTH IVERSEN,
October 2000

You find this zoo close the Roznik Hill at the south western end of the large Tivoli Park area, follow Cesta 27 aprila for maybe 2 kms (you might find a bus here). It is said to have 45 hectares, but it feels smaller (though nice and well kept). When you enter you arrive at an enclosure with antelopes (kobus, eland) and zebras. Ostriches and giraffes are behind these. Left backwards you have american bison, camels and dromedaries, farm animals are to your right. Continue along right the perimeter to see the carnivores (tiger, brown bear), followed by the chimpanzee house, birds of prey and leopard. Now you are at the far end (indian elephants are here). You could now walk towards to the center, but continue along aling to perimeter past several kinds of deer, including Pere David. ‘Australia’ is in this corner too, with cassowaries, black swan and some cangaroos. Now you are automatically led past the bird lakes and to the central open air eatery. To your left you see a modest reptile-and-monkey house, to your right you see the path towards the exit. Notice the educational notice boards. If you have always wondered how a snail or a bee looks like inside, here is the chance to find out about it. You can even buy the content of these boards as postcards at the entrance. Another educational masterstroke: the homepage contains a complete list of species, though only with with Latin and Slovenian names (check www.zoo-ljubljana.si/zivali.php3). Other zoos ought to do likewise.
