A great opportunity to be a zoo keeper for a day or to buy this experience as a present for someone you know who loves animals.

The location is Sandwich in Kent, UK, and the package includes a one to one with a professional keeper, helping with feeding times and “mucking out” animals enclosures. A great opporunity to get up close to some fascinating animals!

– and watch week by week as goodzoos.com grows to become your most valuable guide to the zoos of the world, to what animals you can see, and where, and to what real conservation work zoos are doing.  If the zoo you're looking for is missing, let us know. If we don't have admission prices or a description for your zoo – SEND THEM TO US! We'll publish them for free.  If the zoo descriptions are a little out of date – we apologise. We can't visit one thousand zoos. We need you to do this for us and to send us your reviews. Tell us about the zoos you've visited and the changes we've missed and we'll update the guide. We want goodzoos.com to be the world's most comprehensive source of zoo visitor information. [How do I contribute a critique?] [Tell me about my local zoo]  [Where can I visit to see red pandas?]

How the Good Zoo Guide Works

The original Guide was published by HarperCollins in 1992. It only covered UK Zoos, but it covered them in some depth – giving history, background, and an exhibit by exhibit critique.  Zoos cooperated generously in helping to make the guide comprehensive and accurate. And now we have goodzoos.com – THE GOOD ZOO GUIDE ONLINE. And here is where YOU come in. Because we need a network of savvy, sassy Zoo Critics to scour the globe and to contribute to the guide. We want goodzoos.com  to be the number one source for visitors and zoos alike to find out about the zoos of the world.

How do I contribute to goodzoos.com?

Read some of our zoo reviews. Could you do better? We're looking for honest, valid, up-to date reviews. You'll need to love wildlife. You'll need to be committed to the cause of conservation, and believe that the wildlife of the world needs lifeboats. You may hate zoos per se. You may love them. No matter. You just need to be a constructive guide and critic. Think of theatre criticism, of film criticism. Zoos are no different. Visiting zoos needs to be uplifting and rewarding. We need to be enthused and educated. Many zoos simply depress us and confuse us. So next time you visit a zoo, take a notebook. Do some research. And send us your Good Zoo Guide review by eMAIL to [email protected]  We'll publish it here with your name (if you want). We may edit it. We may just use selected comments. We may even ignore it altogether. But we will read every submission. And we'll gladly carry FREE 'official zoo descriptions' too. Check out our instructions page.

Where can I go to see Red Pandas?

Ah. Now this is the clever bit. We want every zoo to email us with their list of species; and we will publish the list for free on each zoo's page. Then all you will need to do is to visit our search page, enter the animal you want to find, and it will bring up a list of zoos! So if you represent a zoo – please email us your species list (common and scientific names) now. Help us please! This bit won't work without your cooperation! Several zoos have already sent us their species lists –  (for an example – see Marwell Zoo )and we hope to receive more every week. Zoos will benefit from this too – by finding out about other zoos that keep the same species. And remember, this is a world-wide site.

We're Growing!
Yes, visitor reviews have started arriving, and we're excited by them. You'll find many on our zoo pages. But we need more. Lots more. And we still don't have basic details like admission prices and directions about so many zoos. And we're missing zoos from Australia and Brazil and Coumbia and Dahomey and Ethiopia and …. well you get the picture. So please get in touch if you work for a zoo, or if you visit zoos. Do your bit for wildlife.  Join our worldwide internet community of zoo lovers and critics. Click here to find out more.
