Visitor Reviews

Review by Heidi Colver August 2005

KK Sept 2000's opinion is very narrow minded. First of all Utah does not have the tax dollars that California has and it is unfair to compare the Hogle Zoo to the one in San Diego. Granted this comment is five years old and the Hogle zoo has remodeled it's facilities and continues to do so, I still feel this person's opinion was made from a lack of adequate information. This person needs to understand that the Hogle Zoo was built in 1931! And that a large number of animals come to the zoo because they are unable to be rehabilitated and be returned to the wild. Since the 2002 Winter Olympics, the Hogle Zoo has had many campaigns like “Rendezvous In The Zoo” and “Redo the Zoo” that have allowed them to transform their facility into one of beauty and education. And once finished, could then be compared to the zoo in San Diego. I encourage this KK Sept 2000 individual to revisit the new updated Hogle Zoo and see if their rude opinion changes. Please don't let the opinion of this one individual keep you from visiting one of the most beautiful area

In my opinion, Hogle zoo in Salt Lake City, Utah should not be on a website called Good Zoos. Most of the animals are in bad health, and most (like the camels) stand on a cement platform with a cement trench built around it, with nothing to prevent the animals fron falling into it.  Maybe I am just being anal, but as a vet student it angers me to see this.  The Gila monsters area was seperated from the walkway by a rope.  That's it.  Please forgive my rudeness, but I do not think Hogle Zoo is safe for the animals or for the people.  I am doing a paper for English, on if animals should be kept in zoos.  I think yes, if its a zoo like the Sandiego Zoo.  I call it cruel to keep animals in Hogle zoos in Utah. I recommend visiting the new baby orangutan, she's gorgeous
