Visitor Reviews This review submitted by Neils Johs. Legarth Iversen January 2001 When you follow Westbay Street westwards from downtown Nassau you may notice a strange tower out in the water to the left of Arawak Island. That is the underseas observation tower of the Coral World Bahamas (formerly Crystal Caye Marine Park), part of an international chain. You can walk out there, but the Arawak Island is an ugly artificial Island; the alternative is to take a direct bus to the Park. There is a hotel in the complex, but apart from the fact that som parts are off-limits, you don't feel this. The observation tower is a fine idea: you walk down a flight of stairs and find yourself in a round room with windows all around, through which you can watch the real sea floor outside (not tanks). It is of course important that the panes in such a contraption are clean, but at my visit they were somewhat greenish, – I guess it is a hard job to look after all that glass. Apart from the observation tower there are several other things to see: a flamingo pond, bassins with sea turtles, alligators, large stingrays plus a good aquarium. Homepage: www.coralworld.com/cwb
The list of fauna attractions in Nassau does not stop here. You can take semi-submarines out to look at coral reefs, you can look at the native fauna (or importehttps://www.goodzoos.com/files/restworld/d species such as the colony of white cockatoos in the botanical garden), but you could also grab 25 us$ and visit the aquarium in the cellars of the controversial atlantis complex (though it is free to peek into the tanks that surround their restaurant). i didn't see it, – when I got out there I found the whole place so disgusting that I didn't feel like spending a single cent there. On the other hand, some people like the place so much that they spend their whole holiday there. The world is a strange place…
