Visitor Reviews

Dusit Zoo, Bangkok (Thailand) is located on Rama V road, on a flat terrain close to the Parliament. It started out as part of the Royal Dusit Garden Palace, set up by Rama V as his private botanical garden. It was converted into a municipal zoological garden i 1938, and from 1954 it has been under administration by the Zoological Park Organization (together with the zoos of Chiang Mai, Chonburi, Sonkhla and Nakhon Ratchasima). The area is 47.2 acres or 17 ha, and a quarter of it is taken up by lakes. The animals are generally sorted according to species. For instance the zoo has one of the worlds best collections of gibbon species, and they are placed together. Likewise there is a row of deer and a bird island. You will find, of course the large mammals of the area, such as indian elephants, rhinos and tapirs. One of the most popular sights however is the hippo group, especially when the animals are feed. Which reminds me of one of the main features of this zoo, namely the many places you can get something to eat. It seems to me that the Thai like very much to eat, and the Dusit zoo certainly takes care of that. .
