Visitor Reviews

This review submitted by Neils Johs. Legarth Iversen January 2001
Colombo National Zoo (Sri Lanka) is situated in the far south of Colombo (11 km from the Fort Clock Tower) in the suburb of Dehiwalla, - you can get to Dehiwalla Station by local train, but from there it is 1-2 km east to the zoo. It is in several guide books hailed as one of Asia's best and most beautiful zoos, and yes, it is a fine place, - though in my opinion there is too much rusty wire for it to be ranked in the absolute top according to beauty. There is an aquarium and on top of this this, a night house (though you might easily oversee the latter). There are elephant shows with - at my visit - not less than 6 indian elephants, and there are lots of other things to see, such as aviarium, butterfly park plus all the usual animal exhibits. It is a quite large zoo, so you should count on spending something like two hours there to see it all.
